45th Annual Rotary Radio Auction Building Community and Bridging Generations

Since 2003 the Cadiz Rotary Radio Auction and Century Club has raised over a half million dollars and invested over a quarter million in educational opportunities for the youth of this community. For forty-five years, the Cadiz Rotary Club has been able to Build the Community and Bridge Generations by directing the communities’ donations to the younger and older generation of Trigg County. “In no other place where I have spent time, have I encountered the spirit of generosity and caring we have here in Trigg County.” Said Mike Conver, 2011, Rotary Radio Auction Chairman.

“Whether it is athletic clubs for youngsters, scholarships and grants for high school graduates, or exercise and audio-visual furnishings for the Senior Center, the Rotary Club has found ways to make this all possible through the revenue provided by the annual Radio Auction and the Century Club. Individuals and businesses contribute items, and people from all over bid over the radio with the proceeds going right back into educational and fun activities for our citizens. More than half of the funds raised come from donations to the Century Club, which recognizes people, and businesses who donate cash in addition to, or in place of, auction items.” He said.

This year Conver has set the auction goal at $180, 000, approximately $8000.00 more than last year’s goal of $172,000. “It’s been several years since we’ve increased the value of our scholarships. This year, it is my hope that our fund raising will permit a 20% increase in our scholarships and grants to offset rising costs of tuition, books and other items our young people need to prepare themselves for living after they leave high school.” He said.

The Rotary Radio Auction is well underway, with Rotarians on the phone, mailing letters and soliciting auction items from area businesses. Popular items from recent years have included tickets to major league baseball games, basketball tickets, and UK memorabilia.
